When opportunity knocks, it often knocks with a sense of urgency. When a major health care products manufacturer knocked, they were facing a problem they needed fixed yesterday!
The incumbent supplier was exiting that segment of the business. Because the health care manufacturer certifies products to specific surface cleanliness levels, they needed a supplier who could deliver a super high quality product. And they had no time to waste finding a supplier.
Within a month, we were delivering film that not only exceeded specifications, but was the cleanest, most precise film the customer had ever seen. Just as importantly, they never missed a beat in their customer deliveries.
Background
This customer is a major supplier of clean packaging throughout the world. They were among the first clean room packaging manufacturing operation to be ISO certified. Their products are crucial to the health care industry. To assure the ultra pure and clean packaging their customers demand, they need film that’s equally pure.
Creating the Solution
The competition for the business was highly competitive. To win, SFE had to stand out.
Our team met with the customer’s team to get their technical specifications, and to see their machinery and manufacturing process.
Our technicians and quality control team immediately recognized that overcoming stale air in the bubble was the key to the level of quality and purity needed. Additionally, it would require rethinking our set-up and take-down processes as well, to eliminate any likelihood of contamination during the run.
We knew we could meet the other technical specifications of the film. What was going to set us apart was minimizing the level of impurities in the film and establishing customer-specific processes to assure ongoing quality.
We delivered a drop test to the customer. When they ran it through their labs to test for purity, they remarked that this was the purest film they’d ever received.
We explained that we had done our homework on both them and their customers. We understood their customers need for purity, and how purity was essential through every step of the process.
We then described the multi-level air filtering processing we’d developed for their runs. We also told them about the extensive set-up and take-down processes we’d used and were planning for their runs. Our internal analyses indicated this was the purest film we’d ever manufactured.
When they heard that, they knew then we were as serious about quality and purity as they were. We were partners.
